6-month-old cube tiger found dead
Nagpur updates: A six-month-old tiger cub was found dead on Saturday in the central area of the Pench Tiger Reserve (PTR), Maharashtra.
This is Maharashtra’s fourth tiger death and the 11th in the country’s last 18 days. Since 1 January 2020 according to the official website of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), 27 tigers have died so far.
Of the 27 fatalities, 14 were recorded from tiger reserves. The tiger carcass is two days old according to Ravikiran Govekar, the chief forest conservator (CCF) and field director. It was found in the Salama beat which comes under the East Pench range during patrolling in compartment No. 538.
Govekar said the exact cause of death would only be known by the post mortem examination. The post-mortem could not be done, because it was evening. It’ll happen on Sunday.
A team of wildlife veterinarians, including Pench’s Dr. Chetan Patond, Transit Treatment Center’s Dr. Syed Bilal (TTC), Seminary Hills, and Livestock Production Officer Dr. Dipika Mankar (LDO), will conduct the post-mortem as per the NTCA SOP.
