Repair Potholes On Top Priority | Nagpur

Abhijit Bangar promptly writing to all agencies to take up work of filling up potholes on top priority. A little prod from Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court pushed the civic machinery in action with Municipal Commissioner. Bangar has written that they need to ensure that roads need to be smoothened to Project Director, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Chairperson, Nagpur Improvement Trust (NIT), General Manager, Maha Metro, and Chief Engineer, Public Works Department (PWD).

Reference of letter from Assistant Commissioner, Zone-VIII about the poor condition of roads was given for NHAI, Bangar specifically underlined stretches on Pardi and Sadar where flyover construction is underway by them. High-intensity rains during the season worsened the situation on the ground already the roads were in bad shape. In the letter, Commissioner also mentioned that they need to address the issue of potholes that have formed on national highway stretches passing through the city. Due to ongoing construction of fly-over On Bhandara Road in Pardi area, one can hardly find any semblance of roads. The contract for flyover also had component relating to construction of concrete road but as primary work has slowed down there is no sign about the repairs to road surfaces yet. The fly-over construction is going on since the last few years on Sadar and Katol Road. The movement of heavy vehicles particularly those carrying pre-stressed concrete structures and concrete mixers to the site put extra load on the tar roads that have caved in at various places.

 By contractors, the corresponding repairs to make this roads vehicle worthy was neglected by leaving people to suffer untold miseries on a daily basis. Taking cognisance of newspaper articles and photos mentioned difficult time for road users, Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court rapped civic body for its failure to provide pothole-free roads in the city it was mentioned on Tuesday.

The letters are dated September 17, 2019, means they were drafted post receipt of communication from the office of Government Pleader to NMC, in the evening. Municipal Commissioner underlined the cognisance taken by HC about potholes in city and said former should take quick steps so that information about action taken can be submitted to the court was mentioned In separate letters to each of the agencies. To GM, Hingna it was mentioned that due to bad conditions of roads the citizens are facing difficulties while driving on them.  Maha Metro, the road stretches on Kamptee, Wardha, Central Avenue, North Ambazari to Hingna. A bad condition of roads can also lead to mishaps and hence they need to be repaired promptly was also underlined by Commissioner. Action plan about repairs the potholes and damaged roads on their project route so that the information can be furnished to HC during next hearing was also asked by him. Time to time the civic body had intimated the agencies to fill up the potholes on the roads stretches where their development work is going on was also underlined by Municipal Commissioner.
