Image result for 100 electric bus approved by the NMC]The Chairperson of the Transport Committee, Bunty Kukde, told the Central Government. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has approved 100 electric buses. The wheels of these electric buses will be in the town by the end of December.

According to the sources, the civic body will soon sign an agreement with the electric bus manufacturer on a fixed rate per km. In the case of Tejaswini buses, we have the lowest rate in the country, that is Rs. 42.50/km, and in the future, approximately the same equation will remain true, Kukde added.

Ownership of busses would be with NMC while company charges per km for the service of busses in the city. While electric buses come in three sizes, nine-metre,12-metreand18-metre, NMC is interested in small busses keeping the city’s road width in mind. According to the rules, the Center provides 40 per cent of the subsidies for busses, while the cost of 9-metre busses amounts to Rs 1,40 crores, Kukde said.

In addition, the Department is planning to set up another depot at Wathoda, where 10 acres of NMC land is vacant. This would make it possible to better run services to Wathoda, Umred Road and Nandanvan.
