AIIMS will start the inpatient dept by July
After moving from its temporary campus at the Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) to a swanky permanent campus in Mihan in July of last year, the India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur is now all set to become fully functional with daycare, inpatient and super-specialty services.
The IPD services will be launched by July of this year, said Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta, director, and CEO of Nagpur AIIMS. Super-specialty services will start in the next one-and-a-half year.
Dr. Dutta spoke to TOI after Arun Singhal, special secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, visited AIIMS on Monday and held a meeting of the governing body (GBM).
“The Special Secretary received positive feedback from patients and their relatives on the health services provided. He inspected the newly constructed minor OTs, wards, and visited the OPD clinical departments. He praised AIIMS, Nagpur, for setting up the entire set-up within a year, “Dr. Dutta said.
“He has also appreciated the progress of AIIMS since its inception and has ensured that the governing body will facilitate and ensure that AIIMS achieves excellent results,” she said.
Currently, AIIMS, Nagpur, has 149 students in two initial batches. The outpatient department (OPD) is functional and the patient footprint is also increasing.
Singhal also visited the lecture halls, the library, and the pre-clinical anatomy, physiology and biochemistry laboratories. He interacted with students and appreciated the faculty for their innovative teaching methods. Other facilities, such as student hostels, dining areas and guesthouses, were also appreciated.
He also reviewed the different construction sites on the campus. Together with the in-charge and staff of the Hospital Construction Agency, he took stock of the ongoing projects and issued directives to expedite work.
AIIMS Second Foundation Day on Feb 2 AIIMS, Nagpur, will celebrate its second foundation day on February 2 at its Mihan campus from 9.30 a.m. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari will be the main guest. Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, AIIMS President Professor PK Dave, Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Govt of India) Preeti Sudan, Secretary of Medical Education and Drugs (Govt of Maharashtra) Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, will address faculties, staff, and students. A souvenir will be released and the annual distribution of prizes will be held. Nagpur’s progress will be shown in the presentation Milestones achieved’ based on AIIMS.
