Nagpur AIIMS should establish its identity in the world of super specialty care.
Praising Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for taking Nagpur to a different height in terms of transport, roads and introducing national institutions, Dr. Nitin Raut said, “Development comes when we go beyond the party line. Gadkari is a visionary leader and has planned a number of things that will benefit the city in the years to come.
We will continue to work together and I will extend full support to AIIMS, “said Dr. Raut. Noting the rapid development of the India Institute of Medical Sciences in Nagpur (AIIMS), Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed his expectation that the institution will build its reputation in the world of super-specialty care. Gadkari spoke at AIIMS Nagpur premises in MIHAN in a function organized on Sunday to celebrate the second day of its foundation.
Nagpur Guardian Minister Dr Nitin Raut, Rajya Sabha Member and Member of the Board of Directors of AIIMS Padmashri Dr Vikas Mahatme, Ceo of AIIMS Maj Gen Dr Vibha Dutta, SM sat on the dais. Recognizing his experience when he was in Delhi AIIMS for his own care, he felt that such AIIMS should also be present in other parts of the country. “The AIIMS has now entered many locations.
Nagpur has also developed its name in the field of engineering as well as in the field of medicine. I remember people going to Mumbai, Delhi, for minor cardiac surgery. Yet things have changed and people can make use of every single health facility in Nagpur.
I want AIIMS to meet the needs of all the mega speciality healthcare facilities. People should come to Nagpur AIIMS for care from all over the world, “said Gadkari. Gadkari said, “This is the age of the Park of Medical Devices. We have set up such a park in Vishakhapattanam, where MRI was produced in only Rs 98 lakh, which actually costs Rs 6 crore.
We are planning to set up such a facility park in Nagpur, MIHAN. Gadkari suggested AIIMS start the sickle cell unit. He informed the audience that normally people in the caste community are suffering from sickle cell disease. There are 85,000 people living with this disease in North Nagpur alone. He also mentioned the name of Dr. Vinky Rughwani, who runs a sickle cell and thalassemia treatment center in Jaripatka.
He proposed that AIIMS take the aid of Dr. Rughwani. Dr. Vikas Mahatme told the AIIMS authorities that he had spoken to the Mayor of Nagpur Sandip Joshi about transporting patients to and from the area. Dr Vibha Dutta made an introductory speech. Dean of AIIMS Dr. Mrunal Phatak has proposed a vote of thanks. All guests gave awards to students who excelled in their respective categories.
Among those present were Dr. Sunil Khaparde, Adviser to the Government of India for Health, Dr. Sanjay Paithankar, Team Vigyan Bharati Narendra Satfale, Dr. P Sivaswaroop, Regional Director of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Dr. Pramod Padole, Director of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Dr. P K Deshpande, well-known cardiac surgeon, etc. Dr. Raut recalls Dr. Chaube’s vision Dr. Nitin Raut recalled the recollection of the opening of Nagpur’s Super Specialty Hospital by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, then President of India.
At the same time, Dr. B. S. Chaube, then Dean of the Government Medical College and Hospital, expressed the desire that AIIMS as a institute should be taken to Nagpur. Nitin Gadkari fulfilled that dream, said Dr. Raut. Later, in his speech, Gadkari also admitted what Dr. Chaube had said.
