Civic body to provide 18 hours of water supply in six city zones
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation announced on Thursday that six zones in the city will provide water supply for 18 hours a day as opposed to one-and-a-half to two hours a day.
According to the details, it was an after-effect of timely intervention by civic chief Tukaram Mundhe, taking serious note of the complaints about the length of water supply in these areas. The six zones are Laxmi Nagar, Hanuman Nagar, Satranjipura, Ashi Nagar, Mangalwari, Nehru Nagar and others.
Residents of Takli Sim, Nalanda Nagar, Shri Nagar, Omkar Nagar, Vanjari Nagar (New), Bastarwadi, Boriyapura, Bezonbagh, Raj Nagar, Sakkardara Command areas will benefit from the decision to provide 18 hours/day water supply. The residents of Shri Nagar and Nalanda Nagar received one and a half hours of water supply per day and the residents of Bastarwadi received two hours of water supply per day. Now, they’ll get 8-10 hours of water supply a day.
Water Supply Department also plugged the leakage at Raj Bhavan in the command area of Sitabuldi according to the official source. The illegal pipeline was cut in the area of Tekdi Road and Manas Chowk which saved 2 million liters of water per day. The department also cut ties with 1,640 customers who defaulted on paying bills. As a result of this action against the defaulters, 5,179 customers have cleared the Rs 2.60 crore water dues.
The recovery of water charges in February 2019 was 105% of the mark. The recovery was 109% of the goal this year, in February 2020. The number of complaints has been reduced too. NMC’s water resources department had received an average of 3,444 complaints a month from April 2019 to January 2020.
The number fell to 3,250 in February 2020. The department has begun the’ water audit,’ finished by the end of this month. Efforts are being made to sever unauthorized water connections and curb leakages while providing 24 ranges of water supply.
