Roll back school tuition, Edu activists demand
Nagpur Updates: Due to the economic uncertainty faced by parents as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, numerous social and educational activists have requested reductions in school fees. The association of some parents says the reduction must be at least 50% to provide them with some immediate relief.
Yogesh Pathare, Rashtriya Shikshak Paalak Sanghatan’s national coordinator, said “We wrote to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) requesting that only 50 percent of the fee be paid for this academic session.” Pathare said this is not only because of the economic problems faced but also because of a proposed revised academic framework. “Academic session now has to start in October and end in March. The shortened time also means we need to look at acceptable fees being paid, “Pathare said.
The teaching and non-teaching union of MNS say the government must give priority to this issue. Mahesh Joshi, the union’s secretary of state, said “Two things must be done right away. Any planned hike must be scrapped and, in turn, the current fee structure must be halved.
There are so many parents struggling to keep their family finances afloat right now. In such conditions, we can’t expect them to pay the normal fee until the economy gets back on track. “A school owner, who didn’t want to be named because of the presence of parents and political groups, said it’s unreasonable to request a fee reduction. “Every 12 months teachers’ wages are paid. When payments are halved otherwise their wages will also be affected. It could even impact the extra services the school provides and the facilities efficiency, “the owner said.
