Conduct objective type-examinations for State Universities:Academician
Nagpur:- With summer exams of state universities going for a toss due to the outbreak of Covid-19 and nationwide lockout, a senior academic suggested conducting objective-type tests that would not only save time but also manpower and resources.
Ambadas Mohite, founding president of the Maharashtra Association for Social Work Educators (MASWE), has written to Chancellor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and Uday Samant, State Minister for Higher and Technical Education, to provide guidance to all universities in this regard.
“The students are in a state of turmoil, with their guardians. They are worried about when the tests will be carried out when the results will be announced, when they will apply for revaluation and when the next academic year will start. They are also worried about the admissions to their next year, “he said in his letter.
Explaining his suggestion, Mohite, also a former senate member of Universities in Nagpur and Mumbai, said the government might consider this alternative under these conditions. “All other assessments, with the exception of technical classes, could be administered into objective-type patterns, which could produce fast results and significantly save assessment and moderation work. It would also help the universities launch their next academic year (2020-21), as scheduled for mid-June or July, “he said, adding that universities would also save a lot of money on travel and other evaluator bills.
The senior academic asked all vice-chancellors to hold meetings of their various authorities, such as management and academic councils, together with the Senate and Board of Examinations and Evaluations, via digital platform so that the daily works of their universities would not be affected.
“It is about time university officials addressed these contingencies using technology. There are many sites available to hold such meetings as Zoom and Google, “he said.
