Nagpur:- Two Covid-19 patients were admitted to the COVID ward and received treatment Saturday at AIIMS Nagpur. Following the screening at AIIMS Nagpur, a 27-year-old man and his father, 52, Butibori residents, were admitted to Covid-19 on May 23 morning as suspects.
Their nasopharyngeal swabs were collected and sent for testing at the late afternoon AIIMS Nagpur Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory, which came in for positive.
The 27-year-old son worked in Mumbai and returned on May 16 to Nagpur. Since the last 7 days he has been developing symptoms of upper respiratory tract infection (fever, cough, and sore throat). A known case of bronchial asthma and systemic hypertension, his father has developed a cough and sore throat since May 22. Both father and son are currently in stable clinical condition.
The father-son duo is first admitted to AIIMS Nagpur by COVID-19 patients. Until now, the two hospitals where Covid-19 patients are treated are only GMCH and IGGMCH.
Sources at AIIMS said the Institute is ready for Covid-19 patients with a separate ward and they can treat the two patients admitted on Saturday as they have no severe symptoms. Actually, however, the AIIMS still operates out of the patient department ( OPD) and its hospital department is not yet ready and fully working. So, in case these patients’ condition deteriorates, they’ll be transferred to one of the city’s government hospitals.
COVID ward at AIIMS currently has isolation facilities for 16 patients. It’s been ready for the last two months. The number of suspects is set to grow as people return from Mumbai, Pune, and other places now. AIIMS is located in the vicinity of the industrial area of Butibori and MIHAN, were several IT companies are preparing to start a new post lockdown. It could be many returnees’ first option to get themselves tested, as AIIMS also owns an advanced COVID testing facility.
Sources said patients were delighted to see world-class facilities, regular monitoring by doctors wearing PPE kits, and 24-hour COVID Ward CCTV monitoring at AIIMS.
