Apply for Std XI admissions offline, teachers’ union says

Nagpur: The state’s largest group of junior college teachers has requested that the online Std XI admission process be scrapped for this year as this would result in unnecessary delays in starting the academic session. The Maharashtra Junior College Teachers Association (MJUCTA) and its Vidarbha unit wrote to Minister of Education Varsha Gaikwad saying offline admissions would ensure students are not inconvenient.

MJUCTA president Sanjay Shinde said the online admission process had consistently led to delays in various urban areas in the state. “The process continues till September also in the regular course, and academic sessions are postponed. Owing to the lockout we are still behind schedule this time. The academic session begins in July itself, in places where offline admissions are made, “Shinde said. The academic session typically begins at Nagpur from August.

Madhusudhan Mude, president of the Headmasters Association (HA) said, “I think that the government really needs to think about shifting to offline mode because we have more seats than demand in Nagpur. The online thing only works if there is more demand, and less supply.

There are multiple rounds where people choose and a waiting list but this is not rational here because seats are always vacant. “Ashok Gavhankar, General Secretary of the Vidarbha Junior College Teachers Association (VJUCTA), said students can go to schools and complete the admission process in offline mode.

“Online admission involves multiple rounds which lead to the delay. In offline mode, students go only to college where they are seeking entry, leaving out enormous crowds. Admission or removal cycle always goes much quicker,’ he said. He added that certain town colleges for their respective institutions could also allow online admissions for this.
