In 2019, Nagpur saw a 10% drop in crimes | Nagpur Updates

Maximum 7722 crimes were registered in the city in 2018 compared to 8585 crimes Women’s protection and police welfare are New Year’s resolutions of CP Upadhayay

Nagpur: Nagpur’s Second Capital City witnessed a 10% decline in 2019 crime. The city has seen 863 crimes less than the year 2018 in terms of numbers.

Police Commissioner Dr Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay, speaking at a press conference on Monday, said the decline in crimes was the result of smart policing and harsh action against criminals. In 2019, the city recorded a reduction of 863 crimes—10%—compared to 2018 figures. “In 2019, overall 7722 different types of crimes were reported at various police stations as opposed to 8585 crimes in 2018,” said the top cop.

Joint Commissioner, Ravindra Kadam, Additional Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar and Nilesh Bharne, Additional Commissioner for Crime, were on the dais. Also present on this occasion were DCP Zone V, Neelotpal, DCP Zone 2, Vinita Sahu, DCP (Crime) Gajanan Rajmane, DCP (Traffic) Chinmay Pandit, DCP Zone 4 and Nirmala Devi.

Murder cases, however, increased by six in number in 2019. In the year, the city reported a total of 83 killings compared to 77 in 2918. Approximately half of the 83 killings–39–were the result of domestic disputes. Overall, theft cases also experienced a major decline as 2404 cases were recorded in 2018 compared to 2629 cases. Serious crimes such as physical attacks, burglaries including chain snatching, theft, house-breaking, lifting of cars, as well as crimes against women including murders, molestations, torture of married women declined significantly in 2019. “During various festivals such as Holi, Ganeshotsav, Navratri, Dhamma Pravartan Din, Eid, Mohurrum, morchas, and on other occasions, law and order have been judiciously preserved,” Dr Upadhyay said.

• Total – 7722 (8585)

The 2019 identification rate was 69% compared to 63% in 2018. The percentage of detection in 2019 rose by 6%. In 2019, a total of 9855 preventive measures were taken under various CrPC, BP Act, PRO Act, MPDA Act, MCOCA compared to 8318 in 2018.

Women’s safety and police health care are the New Year’s priorities of CP Upadhayay: long working hours, frequent night shifts, erratic diet and lack of sleep also lead to health-related issues for police personnel. Among which all tops heart problems and blood pressure. Nagpur Police Department has everything to set up an innovative idea to curb these violations preying on the life of police officers. Across three sections, the committee must sort the entire police force. A for fit officials, B for diabetes and blood pressure related issues officials, and Class C for heart problems.

Last year at the Vidharbha Cricket Association (VCA) Jamtha Stadium, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Madar Sheik collapsed and died on duty during a bandobast for India vs Bangladesh 3rd T20 match. The incident has led to the deteriorating health of the state’s police officers.
