CR’s awareness campaign on cancer to generate revenue, too

Nagpur: The Central Railway (CR) division of Nagpur will earn Rs4 lakh annual revenue from tying up with the HCG-Nagpur Cancer Hospital and Research Institute (NCHRI) to raise awareness among its passengers about the disease. The joint effort kicked off on’ World Cancer Day’ on February 4.

CR and HCG-NCHRI’s new deal is this year’s 22nd in the group of’ innovative contracts.’ These have helped Rs47 lakh’s division earn revenue until February 15, which is India’s highest non-fare revenue earned by any division. It has studied many of the ideas that have been repeated by other divisions in the groundbreaking contracts of the Nagpur division, which support passengers and also add value to their journeys.

The e-lobby under construction in the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) building would also be the first kind of innovation in passenger amenities where ATM facilities, passbook printing and such other banking solutions would be available. “We’ll also have a fitness and wellness center or Rail Saloon on number one platform along with a free passenger gymnasium,” said SG Rao, assistant commercial manager (goods).

“This year, we’ve already added several first-time ideas to the Indian Railway, such as smart mobile-cum-luggage lockers, Punjab National Bank ATM mounted vehicles, health ATMs with blood and pressure testing facilities, and so on,” he said.

The posters for the cancer awareness drive would be visible on trains between Nagpur-Amla-Betul-Chindwara, the Nagpur-Rewa and Ajni-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus services. In the coaches the mirror glasses, toilets, doors, windows, and other places would have posters related to cancer. The rakes of the luggage were also allocated for campaign purposes.

Under DRM Somesh Kumar Shrivastav, commercial inspector Taraprasad Acharya and senior divisional business manager Krishnath Patil can be attributed the credit for the Nagpur division catapulting to the top slot in the non-fare revenue generation. “The success of the commercial team in the CR division of Nagpur has not only helped the railways in terms of revenue generation, but also has many revolutionary facilities for passengers to add value to their travel tickets,” Rao said.

Among the additional groundbreaking facilities are a rail nail art and mehndi center in the waiting hall for ladies, which was also opened in collaboration with a private company. “We’re also generating revenue through floor branding, loco branding, outsourcing bike packaging, 3D hologram show, and rolling stock advertising facilities,” Rao said.
