Don’t want ‘covid degrees,’ claim students at Nagpur University
NAGPUR: The decision of Nagpur University to award degrees even on zero marks of MCQ examinations and its defence by none other than the Minister of Higher Education and Technical Education Uday Samant did not go well with the students of the final year.
According to them, if students were only to clear exams on the basis of their internal marks, NU degrees in 2020 would be known as “covid degrees.”Instead they said passing both internal and theory exams separately should be the right way. They said those who study throughout the year would suffer while under present system non-serious students would benefit.
“People who haven’t studied will be identified by recruiters and university in interviews, earning a bad reputation. NU is now notorious for scams such as Kohchade and scandals among others. If it awards these degrees in this pandemic on the basis of zero marks in theory exams, they will certainly be referred to as ‘covid degrees,’ said MA student Gaurav Harde in his final year.
Others like NSUI activist Ajit Singh, also a final year student, felt that by passing students with zero marks, NU was compromising on quality too. “At least, in both principle and internal reviews, they should have insisted on different passes. Otherwise, the results will be almost 100 per cent, and students like us will suffer.
