Nagpur: ongoing protests against the Law on Citizenship (Amendment) 2019 (CAA), the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR) in Eidgah, Jaffar Nagar, have received support from lawyers, teachers, doctors and academics on Thursday.

The speakers referred to CAA, NPR and NRC as’ anti-poor and’ anti-national’ laws and appealed to non-Muslim religious minorities and those belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Schedules Tribes (ST) and lower Hindu castes to come forward and support the agitation.

“The CAA, NRC and NPR combo are moving India towards the Hindu Rashtra definition developed by Savarkar and Golwalkar. This concept does not have a place for non-Vedic religions. After the Hindus, Jains, Buddhists, Sikhs and all minorities in the country will be attacked, “said Professor Prajwalla Tatte. She also called on women of all faiths to join the marchers, saying that new laws would exclude women in the future.

Homeopathic practitioner Dr Shahwar Naziya believed that giving citizenship to people from Pakistan and Afghanistan could carry polio back to India. “India was declared free of polio by the WHO four years ago, but Pakistan is still dealing with it. Persons from Pakistan will carry polio back to India, as no one will test their health and immunization status when offering them citizenship, “she said.

“We will resist CAA for the future of our children,” Naziya said. She got a repulsive response from the women present at the demonstrations.

Dr Ratinath Mishra declared CAA and NPR anti-India. “This is against the guiding principles of our constitution. The present government is following the policy of’ divide and rule’ of the British, and we will never let them succeed, “he said.

A group of district and high court lawyers visited Eidgah Ground and expressed their support for the agitation. High court lawyer Ravi Shakar Bhure said that this is a massive conspiracy in which the judiciary is powerless.

“Citizens are protesting across the world. India’s reputation as a democratic country has been hit hard. Even the courts refuse petitions against CAA and NRC, which is disappointing for a law student like me, “he lamented. Lawyers Sheetal Deshpande, Shabana Khan, Akshay Samarth, Akeb-ul-Haq spoke on the occasion and vowed to provide all necessary legal assistance to the protesters.
