Germany-returned neighbours wife fears, booked

Nagpur: Women who violated quarantine orders have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and Epidemics Act, a 20-year-old Germany returned. Anita Rao (name changed) was picked up from her home by the NMC officials on Monday afternoon and taken to the quarantine facility at the MLA hostel but sent back by the doctors. The drama lasted over 5 hours.

10 days ago Anita had come back from Germany. She stayed at her home alone, but on Sunday, when Janata Curfew was being followed, she went out to pick up her mother from Ajni Railway Station.

Her mother, an employee of the state government, was coming back from Mumbai where she is posted. Anita was spotted heading out by the neighbors and they lodged a complaint causing officials to pick up her. After long arguments at MLA hostel, the doctors said there was no provision for taking in a person who had returned 10 days ago.

She was told to report back at her locality Police Station. She was protected by police. Police told her to remain indoors until the 14-day period ended, and police also asked her to report any neighbor’s abuse.

“We had officials come to our home on Sunday to check that I was indoors. An ambulance has reached my place today, however, and I was taken to the MLA hostel, “said Anita

“They first told me I was being checked then they took me to MLA hostel. I was in the ambulance, myself. My mother followed and reached around 15 minutes later, ”she said.

She got to Nagpur on a domestic flight after landing at Mumbai on March 14. At that time flyers for home quarantine were not being signed. “However, I had to give the immigration authorities a promise that I would stay at home for 14 days,” she said. Stamping began on 18 March.

She was heard at the MLA hostel arguing with the officials that it’s been 10 days since she came back and she had to go out because there was no alternative. “It was Janata Curfew and I couldn’t find any mode of transport from the railway station to get home so I called my friend. She sat in the car and had been out for only 20 minutes, “the mother said.

“Because of compulsion, I agreed she had gone out but the neighbors were very threatening. We’re afraid of them now,’ she said. “I’m just at the receiving end because I’ve come from Germany,” said Anita who also called the collectorate to lodge an abuse counter-complaint. A few days ago, another person returning from Dubai was taken to the quarantine facility after a report from the neighbors.
