Kanhan River Flood Video: Water supply to the North, East & Central Nagpur affected
Nagpur Update :- Nagpur, Sept. 28: Following heavy flooding in the Kanhan River from Sept. 28 in the morning, evening water supplies to Nagpur City on Sept. 28 (Saturday), particularly in the Nehru Nagar Zone, the Lakarganj Zone, the Satranji Pure Zone and the Ashi Nagar Zone remained severely impacted, while water supplies to the same areas on Sept. Kanhan River Water level @275 meter. 29 (Sunday) in the afternoon stay affected.
The reason for the flood in the Kanhan River. Since the early morning of September 28, 2019, the water level in the Kanhan River has begun to rise. The river was registered at the Kanhan WTP intake Wells at night in complete spate and the water level was 275.5 m. It is learned that all the gates of the Totladih Dam & Navegaon-Khairy Dam were opened by 2.5 m due to very heavy rainfall in the last two days in the Satpura Valley of Madhya Prades on Sept. 27th. The opening of the gate is expected to be reduced and finally closed by 29th September in the morning. It must be mentioned here, due to the flooded condition of the Kanhan River, that the suction strainers of the Intake wells on the right back and left back were blocked in mud, sand, silt and dunnage flowing in the water of the river. Although the OCW divers have a difficult task of diving within 20 feet of muddy water and cleaning the strainers, the pumping to the city remained interrupted.
Following such floods in the Kanhan River, the evening water supply to the town of Nagpur in the Nehru Nagar zone, the Lakarganj zone, parts of the Satranji Pura zone and the Ashi Nagar zone remained severely affected.
Nagpur update: -Even on the 29th of September (Sunday) morning, the water supply remains severely impacted. NMC-OCW teams are taking care of the cleaning operation of the strainer in order to allow a complete pumping of the water supply from Kanhan WTP, but following natural flood problems, attempts are not supposed to produce outcomes. NMC-OCW has called on people to collaborate.
