Locust swarms spotted in Maharashtra, Pench Reserve
Nagpur:- Locust swarms descended Tuesday in Maharashtra’s Pench Tiger Reserve, a forest official said. The swarms flew in from the west of Koltimara and descended to the east over Borban, Chor Bahuli, Silari, and Pipriya forest areas, said Pench Tiger Reserve director Ravikiran Govekar.
The reserve is scattered across the Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh border. The forest and agriculture departments of Maharashtra kept a watchful eye on the movement of locusts but there was no spraying of pesticide as the reserve is a protected area, he added.
Swarms shifted toward Mansar after it rained on Tuesday afternoon, and no significant damage to crops or trees was reported, Govekar said.
