Moving to help 80k ATKT students
Nagpur:- One day after the Maharashtra administration decided to promote even failure (ATKT) students because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Nagpur University (NU) has about 80,000 students who would benefit from the decision. The figure is more than the regular students in the final year, who are about 75,000. The state has a backlog of more than 3 lakh students in subjects.
“We are not getting any formal notification yet, but we are ready with these students’ figures. Many have third, fourth , and fifth semesters backlogs. We’ve around 25,000 or more students in each of them. So, the total number is about 80,000, “Chancellor (officiating) pro-vice SR Chaudhary.
On Friday, NU officials including VC (acting) Murlidhar Chandekar, pro-VC and others held an informal meeting to discuss the decision of the government. Many problems such as the stalemate over the final year exams came up for discussion as well.
State Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant rushed a letter to the apex body and Union HRD Ministry after UGC released guidelines for universities that made it mandatory to conduct examinations in September. In view of the surge in coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, he expressed his inability to conduct the examinations daily.
