MSRDC Launches Third Phase Expansion of Samruddhi Mahamarg, Introducing Three Expressway Connectors
As the Samruddhi Mahamarg nears completion, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has embarked on the third phase expansion, focusing on enhancing connectivity through the construction of three access-controlled super communication expressways.
Strengthening Connectivity to Remote Districts
Access to Bhandara, Gondia, and Chandrapur
In this expansion phase, MSRDC aims to build expressways connecting the districts of Bhandara, Gondia, and Chandrapur. These expressways, woven into the extensive road network, will seamlessly integrate with the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg, facilitating smoother road travel between Mumbai and these remote parts of the state.
Projected Costs and Distances
- Nagpur-Gondia Expressway: Covering 127 km, including a bypass to Gondia, this expressway is estimated to cost Rs 7,436 crore.
- Bhandara to Gondia Expressway: Spanning 25 km, the connector is budgeted at Rs 1,587 crore.
- Nagpur to Chandrapur Expressway: Extending over 194 km, this expressway is planned with an investment of Rs 9,543 crore.
MSRDC’s Call for Proposals
MSRDC has initiated the next steps by inviting Request for Proposals (RFP) from pre-qualified bidders for the construction of these expressways, signaling the beginning of a significant phase in Maharashtra’s road infrastructure development.
Samruddhi Mahamarg: A Gateway to Prosperity
Overview of the Mega Expressway
Officially named ‘Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg,’ this 701-km expressway connects Nagpur to Mumbai, traversing 10 key districts and indirectly linking 14 others. It acts as a vital conduit between Maharashtra’s eastern and western regions, establishing seamless connectivity.
Maharashtra’s Strategic Road Network
Samruddhi Mahamarg’s Economic Significance
Styled as the ‘Prosperity Corridor,’ the expressway connects crucial economic hubs, such as the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust in Mumbai, the country’s largest container port, and the upcoming international airport in Navi Mumbai.
Future Expansion Plans
Additional Connectors and Expansions
Acknowledging the strategic importance of enhanced connectivity, the Maharashtra government envisions developing additional connectors and access-controlled expressways to major districts in the state, further amplifying the impact of Samruddhi Mahamarg.
Continuing the Expansion Journey
Ongoing Projects and Initiatives
As part of this vision, MSRDC has already initiated the bidding process for the second phase expansion – the 179.85-km Jalna-Nanded expressway, an essential addition to the state’s growing road infrastructure. Six packages for the construction of this expressway, budgeted at Rs 19,000 crore, are currently in the bidding stage.
In conclusion, MSRDC’s dynamic approach to expanding the Samruddhi Mahamarg, coupled with plans for additional expressways, underscores the commitment to transforming Maharashtra’s road network into a robust and seamlessly connected infrastructure. The ongoing and upcoming projects signify a significant leap towards fostering economic prosperity and accessibility across the state.
