Nagpur boy tops CAT 2019 | Nagpur Updates
An Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) mechanical engineering undergraduate, Bombay, Somansh Chordia emerged as one of ten candidates who scored 100 percentiles in CAT 2019. As many as four Maharashtra candidates made it to the great scorer list.
Despite his interest in management since school, he encouraged him to pursue academic management and prepare for CAT through numerous guest lectures at the institute. His father is an owner, and his mother is a teacher of the abacus. “Abacus was an important component for me as I grew up. It not only improved my arithmetic skills but also improved visualization and problem-solving. First, it helped me crack JEE and now CAT,” Somansh says.
Somansh is currently in BTech’s final year and is being trained for CAT as well as regular classes at the school. His training method for CAT included solving numerous mock tests and using different sources to review content. “I tried to study with peers for elective courses as it helped me cover various topics in a limited amount of time through group discussions and cross-learning. It became a bit tough during the placement season as I couldn’t spend much time training, but it all settled well in the end,” the Nagpur boy added.
“IIM Ahmedabad would be my first preference for a postgraduate program. I have not narrowed down on my core area, but I will try to integrate my knowledge of mechanical engineering with management,” says Somansh, an avid badminton player who enjoys reading autobiographies.
