NMC starts work pre-monsoon, patches 378 potholes
Nagpur:- As part of its pre-monsoon exercise since last April week, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has started repairing roads in the area. NMC claimed to have repaired 378 potholes throughout the city, especially in south Nagpur, until May 5.
Also, the department of public works has given nod to Abhi Engineering, a road construction firm, to render two incomplete cement roads concrete.
With this year’s Nagpur monsoon onset date being June 15, NMC has more than a month and a half to complete pre-monsoon operations. It has completed the repair and resurfacing of Jhanda Chowk Road, (Mahal), Jaitala Road, the patch between NMC Isolation Hospital and Imambada police chowky, Uday Lawn to Wathoda Village Road, Krida Chowk to Awari Chowk and Awari Chowk to Sakkardara Chowk Stretches.
It also conducted patch-up works from Manish Nagar railway crossing to Chinch Bhuvan, Hasanbagh Chowk to Nagar Chowk Shrikrishna.
The official said the staff was asked to follow social distancing and other guidelines provided in view of the coronavirus outbreak while conducting works in town. “People have been told to keep their faces hidden throughout the job, and to maintain social distance,” the official added.
Residents requested that the NMC do patchwork in a scientific way. Because of the lockdown these days, there is no vehicular movement, so the civic body can easily perform repair work. Patches should be correctly applied preserving road surface quality, residents added.
Similarly, the department of public works at NMC has also issued nods to complete a small patch of cement road near the office of State CID. The official said that the road to Police Talao from Awasthi Nagar Chowk was almost complete barring a 50mtr patch over a nullah. “We asked them to complete the work because the road construction company has the necessary manpower,” he said.
“We have asked the firm to complete the unfinished work before headquarters at NMC,” the official said.
The civic body, as every year, was charged with completing pre-monsoon works by May 31. “Works that are pre-monsoon can not stop. There will be a lot of issues like flooding, injuries, and traffic disturbances if prevented, “the official said.
