Contrary to its own decision to gather solely segregated rubbish from households and levy penalties on non-complying voters, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) plans to start a project to supply compost using mixed-garbage, that too for 15 years. The latest move hints that NMC is either adopting double-standards or not assured regarding implementing the segregated rubbish system. A proposal during this regard was approved by the committee in its meeting on Fri. The NMC can issue tender for appointment of personal operator who can construct, operate and maintain mixed-garbage treatment plant for producing compost for 15 years at Bhandewadi dumping yard. Despite approving, committee chairman Pradip Pohane couldn’t reply to queries on the project at a conference. He summoned NMC deputy engineer Rajesh Dufare for similar. Dufare aforesaid the project was planned for 200 metric MT (MT) mixed-garbage per day as against daily assortment of one,255 MT. “Project has been planned considering there can be some quantum of non-segregated garbage. The project is often regenerate into total wet waste using alternative technology just in case the full garbage collected is already segregated,” he said.
