Pandhrabodi & Kashi Nagar register cases, as containment zones notified
Nagpur:- Residents of Pandhrabodi slum in West Nagpur and Kashi Nagar in South-West Nagpur were identified as two of the three patients who were admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and tested positive for Covid-19. For Covid-19 these areas are fresh and have now been notified as containment zones. Currently, Covid-19 has active cases in seven of 10 Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) districts.
Had announced positive results in three GMCH patients on Friday. One is an individual from Trust Style, Pandhrabodi slum, who is 29 years old. He was admitted for jaundice at GMCH on May 5, and also suffered from liver cirrhosis. On Friday also another man from Mominpura tested positive.
Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe notified the containment zone that the patient’s house was considered an epicenter. The region covers several regions. It starts from Ambazari Garden Corner to Om Sales Chowk to Hillfort Public School to Ram Nagar Square to Nelson Mandela Hostel Square at New Verma Layout. So it occupies the whole slum of Pandhrabodi, Hill Top, Bajiprabhu Nagar, and Sanjay Nagar.
Panic gripped neighboring areas such as Verma Layout, Gandhi Nagar, Gokulpeth, Ram Nagar, etc. as Pandhrabodi people work in these areas as housewives, drivers, and other trades.
Dr. Praveen Gantawar, an additional NMC medical officer (health) told, “The patient and his brother are not working. His mother works at Ram Nagar with a mess but has said she hasn’t been working since lockdown.
His father runs a puncture shop and has been home since lockdown as well. Both family members and several neighbors have been quarantined. The door-to-door survey will start from Saturday, and closer contacts will be quarantined. “NMC team led by assistant commissioner Prakash Warhade barricaded the whole area.
Gantawar told, “Kashi Nagar patient Shatabdi Chowk is a mentally challenged person and admitted to Serious Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) at GMCH. His brothers have travel history to other places and extensive inquiries are underway. “Before being admitted to GMCH, the patient was receiving care from a nearby hospital.
He was also taken to another Congress Nagar hospital for the very first time. The civic body has quarantined doctors and some staff from these hospitals and is likely to shut down hospitals for a few days starting Saturday on a temporary basis.
Mundhe notified Kashi Nagar and neighboring areas as a containment zone with boundaries on one side of Inner Ring Road and on the other side of Abhay Nagar Garden and Beltarodi Road.
The third optimistic person from Parvati Nagar slums is a relative of the 22-year-old deceased. He is a Jaibhim Nagar resident, who is adjacent to Parvati Nagar. He was reportedly admitted to GMCH immediately after he became aware of the positive reports from the deceased.
Mundhe has now expanded the containment zone of Parvati Nagar up to the Jaibhim Nagar boundary. The patient works at a Sadar shop and has a long history of traveling to other parts of the region. The case is being investigated by NMC.
The number of cases from new areas in the last three days increased to seven. Cases came from Bada Tajbagh, Ganeshpeth, Parvati Nagar, and Khushi Nagar near Jaripatka on Wednesday. Now only three zones Laxmi Nagar, Lakadganj, and Mangalwari zones have no active Covid-19 incidents. But there had been reports from those areas earlier. It also means that all ten city zones have reported cases since March 11.
