Police start drone surveillance at Satranjipura area
Nagpur:- City police began air surveillance in Satranjipura on Monday, with the help of drones launched by the wireless department. To control containment zones and other congested localities where police mobility is limited, the drones would be pressed into action.
The drones were introduced, fitted with a walkie-talkie and prerecorded messages, for successful surveillance and public announcements about lockdown norms.
State home minister Anil Deshmukh had been urging the city police to equip drones with announcement facilities on Mumbai’s lines during a review meeting last week.
DCP, headquarters, Vikram Sali said they were working to add a sound system to the two drones under the guidance of CP BK Upadhyay. “The drones will rise up to 200 feet above the ground and can keep an eye on an area within a distance of one kilometer,” he said.
The DCP said Rs33 lakh was saved by the city police wireless department using their innovative technology instead of buying one.
Sali said the drones at the locations would be operated by mobile surveillance vehicle or mini control room station. “We aim to track and announcements in real-time through wirelessly powered announcement systems,” he said.
Senior PI Anil Sakhare and wireless department sub-inspector Vijay Mohite said the drones would be used in dingy lanes and congested highways.
