Scammers Use Aarogya Setu & Video Calling Apps by Name: This is How to Save You
Phishing attacks are motivated by the Aarogya Setu app, as cybercriminals take advantage of the COVID pandemic, and other video calling devices. In its latest warning, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN) says there has been a major increase in phishing attacks on behalf of the Aarogya Setu contact tracing system, as well as video communication applications such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet.
It turns out that scammers are impersonating the World Health Organization (WHO), HR departments and top company executives or any other person you may know to spread fake and refer to these common apps that say “Your neighbor is infected,” “See if-else is infected,” “Someone who came in touch with you tested positive,” “Self-isolation advice” and “Guidelines t”
Computer security company Check Point recently reported that in the past three weeks they have seen 192,000 coronavirus-related cyber-attacks per week, a rise of 30% compared to previous weeks. We say, “nearly 20,000 new coronavirus-related domains have been reported in the past three weeks and 17% are malicious or suspicious.”
“The threat actors take interest in Coronavirus-related users and execute attacks. New phishing domains are developed based on the topic such as “relief package,” “corona protection tips,” “corona test kit,” “corona vaccination,” “corona payment and donation during corona.” Threat actors manipulate users by phishing emails and messages based on the topics above, CERT-in says in the advisory.
The advisory says we should pay attention to phishing domains, spelling errors in texts, websites, and unknown senders of texts. Nor should users download or open any received file in an email or SMS connection. Always, never post your personal details on unknown websites, and be careful to click on links promising incentives, etc. Computing devices should use firewalls and antivirus solutions to alert you in the event of phishing attempts.
