State to permit marriage on grounds, halls
Nagpur:- Relief and rehabilitation minister Vijay Wadettiwar said that the state government would allow marriage ceremonies on open grounds and non-AC halls soon. His office sources said Tuesday a notification will be issued.
Wadettiwar said in a video statement, “With the rainy season on, it’s hard for people to hold marriages inside their own homes. Many people also have small houses. The government has therefore chosen to relax the rules. Only 50 guests will be allowed, however, and all will have to abide by Covid ‘s guidelines.
Wadettiwar added the decision will also help land and hall owners. “The functioning of a large number of people is financially dependent on them,” he said. From June 1 after the lifting of the lockdown, the government had permitted marriages with 50 people in attendance but disallowed them in halls, hotels, and grounds.
Wadettiwar said residents, wedding venue managers, and “former finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar” were seeking rules relaxation.
On June 10, Nagpur district collector Ravindra Thakre had written to the principal secretary of disaster management, relief, and rehabilitation department seeking permission for marriage ceremonies in grounds, hotels, and halls. He has yet to receive a response.
Welcoming the decision, hotelier Jasbir Singh Arora said, “Many had postponed marriages scheduled in April and May. Following dates in the last week of June, the next mahurats are only in November.
Arora also said the government should allow hotel room reservations as well. “Those who come from other districts and states find accommodation hard to find,” he said had posted on a letter from Thakre on June 13. Many land and hall owners had begun accepting bookings. In rural parts of Nagpur, some are even functional.
