Trucks can carry 4 tons of garbage, while NMC reports 6 tons

Nagpur:- West Nagpur MLA Vikas Thakre came up with more evidence of garbage collection irregularities, one day after his surprise visit to Bhandewadi dumping yard revealed that trucks carrying refuge had up to 60 percent mud while Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) released payments considering it to be 100 percent garbage.

Thakre said all officials knew that if trucks were filled with garbage they could only carry 3-4 metric tons ( MT) of it, but they were all right trucks carrying 6-6.5 MT garbage. He said it proves the scam which causes the cash-strapped civic body huge financial loss.

Thakre told, “I have receipts provided by NMC weighing bridge located at Bhandewadi dumping yard entrance. Trucks are weighed at entry and after the garbage has been unloaded at yard. For all trucks the quantity of garbage is registered as 6-6.5 MT.

He said it was not possible, and challenged the NMC officials to show how to accommodate 6-6.5 MT garbage collected from households in a truck. He questioned how NMC officials allowed trucks to enter yard and unload the garbage when they knew about irregularities from the beginning. “It clearly proves the connivance of NMC officials with two private operators-AG Enviro and BVG India,” he said.

NMC released a show cause notice to AG Enviro on Monday asking it to file reply on Thakre ‘s allegations.

Thakre said, “NMC officials will immediately be filing a FIR. Display note about trigger is just buying time. The abuses have continued since the hiring in November last year of two private operators. Entire documents and the sums retrieved from two operators should be taken. Strict action against the officials involved should be taken,’ he said.

Thakre added that he would write to CM Uddhav Thackeray, Minister of Urban Development Eknath Shinde and Minister of Home Affairs Anil Deshmukh demanding FIR against the NMC if an offense was not reported against two operators Tuesday. “I have confirmed charges of both video clips at the dumping yard as well as two spots from where mud and garbage were being mixed. I do have complaints from drivers that the companies acknowledged irregularities. Therefore no inquiry is required, “he said.

NMC is paying the two companies about Rs 5.50-6 crore a month. Shiv Sena chief Nitin Tiwari also leveled the same allegations on BVG India last month. A committee of five is investigating the case and has yet to submit a report. A day earlier, the BVG India representative had denied the allegations. An AG official, Enviro, declined to comment.
