Warning bank clerk identifies fake Rs 6.76cr GMCH cheque
Nagpur: Imambada police launched a search operation to nab an unidentified person who submitted a bogus Rs6.76 crore check on Thursday at a bank in the area with the forged signature and stamp of Government Medical College and Hospital Superintendent (GMCH). However, the bogus cheque was found by a watchful bank employee.
Police said a masked man, who also wore a hat, came to Medical Square’s Axis Bank branch and submitted a check for Rs6.76 crore with GMCH superintendent’s sign and stamp. The cheques were on behalf of the accounts of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana and Old Rajiv Gandhi Jivandai Arogya Yojana. He submitted the check to be deposited in Sadguru Training Company and MD Medical Equipment Suppliers’ accounts with self-RTGS.
Immediately after sending the cheque, the man left the bank. The bank employee suspected something fishy and summoned the GMCH dean to validate the big deal. The employee found that no such search was given by officials of GMCH.
Soon, a GMCH official arrived at the bank and checked the cheque, which turned out to be a fake. Imambada police have been notified and a fraud case has been reported in the matter. Cops checked the bank’s CCTV footage to locate the accused who tried to dupe GMCH by sending a fake cheque. Cops are now trying to have the accused confirmed.
The incident came just when the majority of GMCH officials are busy battling the Covid-19 outbreak. In an attempt to find, police are now monitoring the path the accused used to get to the bank.
