Kishor Rithe on BNHS Governing council

Nagpur: Wildlife conservationist and president of the Kishor Rithe Satpuda Foundation has been elected to governing council of the 137-year-old Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS).

Rithe had defeated Mumbai’s closest competitor Kedar Bhide. His election to governing council takes on significance as BNHS is the oldest and most well-known wildlife, birdlife and biodiversity conservation body in the world.

BNHS is a member of various government bodies which decide on environmental, forest and wildlife-related projects. NGO plays a crucial role in various policy-making processes.

BNHS was established by four British and two Indian scientists on 15 September 1883. Several famous naturalists have been affiliated with it, including the ornithologists Salim Ali and S Dillon Ripley.

Rithe was elected from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Goa, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, western zone. The term of Rithe will continue for 4 years until 2024.
