Tukaram Mundhe, Thakare to provide guidelines for lockdowns today

Nagpur: Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe and collector Ravindra Thakare will provide guidelines for the lockdown period from 1 July to 31 Tuesday for the city and rural Nagpur. Chief Secretary Ajoy Mehta released a notification on Monday, extending the lockdown until July 31.

Mehta states in the notification, “Collectors and commissioners of municipal corporations may impose certain measures and required restrictions on permitted non-essential activities and movement of persons in designated local areas to contain the spread of Covid-19”

Deputy municipal commissioner Nirbhay Jain said Tukaram Mundhe would issue town limits guidelines. Deputy resident collector Ravindra Khajanchi said Thakare would do the same for rural Nagpur.
The town has registered 1,223 positive cases, the majority of which were published in June. The city’s death toll stands at 13.

From the outset, Tukaram Mundhe has been eager to place various restrictions in the city to contain the Covid-19 spread. The government had removed the city from the red zone, but Tukaram Mundhe took the matter on board and restored it. In rural Nagpur, Thakare had permitted various relaxations and is likely to allow more commercial activities. About 192 positive cases have been reported in rural Nagpur.

Shops in the city are prohibited selling tobacco related goods, tea stalls, paan kiosks, and food stalls on the roadside. Also home delivery is permitted at the wine shops. Both these commercial establishments work in rural Nagpur. Non-essential shops are permitted in town limits on alternating days.
