Gadchiroli: The Emerging Steel City to Surpass Jamshedpur

Nitin Gadkari: In the wake of an exclusive interview with Union Minister Nitin Gadkari , the prospects of Gadchiroli and Nagpur are poised for remarkable transformations. With ambitious plans to elevate Nagpur as the logistics capital, tourist haven, and an eco-friendly metropolis, Gadkari’s vision extends far beyond conventional boundaries. Amidst these plans, the Maharashtra government is fervently advocating Gadchiroli as the next investment hotspot, heralding it to potentially outshine Jamshedpur as a burgeoning steel city.

Setting the Stage: Gadchiroli’s Steel Ambitions

Gadchiroli, a district blessed with unparalleled reserves of high-quality iron ore, stands at the threshold of a monumental transformation. The superiority of its iron ore deposits has drawn significant interest from mining conglomerates, positioning Gadchiroli as a magnet for industrial investments. Despite previous attempts by Tatas to establish operations in the region, hindered primarily by forest regulations, the momentum towards establishing Gadchiroli as India’s premier steel hub remains undeterred. The impending development surge promises to catapult Gadchiroli into a realm of economic prominence, rivaling the stature of Jamshedpur.

Nagpur: A City Poised for Ascendancy

Nagpur, under Gadkari’s stewardship, is on a trajectory towards becoming one of India’s top three cities across various metrics. With substantial investments exceeding Rs 1 lakh crore directed towards infrastructure development, Nagpur is witnessing an unprecedented metamorphosis. The implementation of transformative projects such as the Metro Rail network, extensive cement road networks, and a plethora of infrastructural marvels accentuates Nagpur’s rapid evolution. Gadkari’s multifaceted approach, encompassing environmental sustainability alongside urban development, aims to position Nagpur as a paragon of progress.

Navigating Towards Logistics Supremacy

Gadkari’s vision extends beyond urban development to position Nagpur as the logistics epicenter of India. The inauguration of the Sindi dry port in Wardha heralds a paradigm shift in logistics operations, facilitating seamless transportation of goods to international markets. The strategic location of Nagpur, coupled with investments in industrial clusters and aviation infrastructure, reinforces its status as a burgeoning logistics hub. Additionally, plans for an international agroconvention center underscore Nagpur’s emergence as a multifaceted economic powerhouse.

Ensuring Sustainable Progress: The Water Imperative

While Nagpur strides towards its envisioned future, challenges such as uninterrupted water supply persist. Despite significant strides, a segment of the populace still grapples with intermittent water access. However, concerted efforts by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation, with initiatives like 24×7 water supply and infrastructural augmentations, signify a commitment to address these challenges head-on.

The confluence of visionary leadership, strategic investments, and unwavering determination heralds a promising era for Gadchiroli and Nagpur. As Gadchiroli gears up to rival Jamshedpur in steel production, Nagpur embarks on a trajectory towards becoming an exemplar of urban development and sustainability. With each milestone achieved, the duo propels Maharashtra towards unprecedented heights of prosperity and progress.

If violations continue, full lockdown: Tukaram Mundhe

Nagpur:- Municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe warned on Saturday that complete lockdown and curfew would be reimposed on lines from other cities if violations of guidelines meant to contain spread of novel coronavirus persisted.

Alarmed by the sharp increase in Covid-19 positive cases as well as deaths after lockdown requirements were loosened from June 1, Mundhe appealed to citizens to obey caution and discipline. He also said that from Monday, FIR will be reported against violators.

According to data released on Saturday by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), 1,337 corona-positive cases were reported in the city between 1 June and 10 July, whereas the number was 495 between 11 March and 31 May. Doubling rate also fell significantly from 49 to 18 days, though deaths rose to 17.

Thane, Kalyan-Dombivli and Mira-Bhayander municipal corporations have reimposed full lockdowns following a increase in cases after ease in lockdown. Lockdown from 13 July in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will be improved.

Mundhe told that, when protocols were followed, there were fewer cases in town during full lockdown. “Rules were relaxed to restore economic and social life but people stopped following the guidelines of the government and the NMC, leading to a spike in cases,” he said.

He stressed that the pandemic can be “managed easily if everyone maintains distancing Covid, wearing masks in public, upholding the respiratory etiquette and avoiding vomiting in public places.”

“Norms which are formulated for shops and private establishments are not followed either. Enough chances have been given but stringent action against violators will be taken from now on, “he said.

Citing cases in which some people had attempted to refuse admission to isolation wards after positive testing, he said, “This will increase cases further. They should be immediately admitted for the sake of self and the safety of society. Some people do not seek medical advice while showing symptoms, which could lead to death as has happened in the last few days.

Testing has increased, rapid antigen tests and antibody tests have begun, patients with Covid-19 are now being treated in private hospitals, all forms of facilities are being provided in quarantine centers and asymptomatic patients have been set up in Covid Treatment Centres. People should be cooperating with authorities now. Anyone who has health problems should consult doctors compulsorily. Everyone can call the control room at the NMC and request assistance, “he said.

Mundhe said Nagpur Central Jail has emerged as a new hotspot as more than 300 positively screened while many of the prisoners have yet to be checked. “Early detection and treatment of cases would help to keep the mortality low and control Covid-19 spread. We’ll need to prevent new hotspots from emerging, “he said.

The company will soon build three new Nagpur CNG stations bringing the number of such facilities to five. The company currently operates two stations located at both Automotive Square and Wadi. Khapri, Hingna, and Pardi are coming up at the new stations.

Rawmatt Industries is aggressively expanding its base in Central India as demand for the environmentally friendly fuel is rising leaps and boundaries. Released convicts to help establish industries soon

Nagpur: The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Institute (MSME-DI), Nagpur, is planning a small start to rehabilitate convicts who have served their terms of imprisonment to help such people set up industries after being released from jail.

The MSME-DI, which comes under the MSMEs Union Ministry, has written to the state’s director-general (DG) prisons to share data on prisoners who have been released in the last year and are living in Nagpur and nearby locations.

“Usually it’s very difficult for former inmates to get back into the mainstream after the sentence is complete. The stigma means they can’t get jobs and because of that they are also susceptible to committing crimes again. In such cases self-employment may be the best option, “said MM Parlewar, MSME-DI manager. This would be the first-ever department-related scheme purely for the rehabilitation of former prisoners from an industry.

“The idea was conceived in Nagpur, and at the same time, I also registered for PhD research on the topic — rehabilitating prisoners by helping them establish industries. Plans are in place to start the initiative as a pilot project in Nagpur. Once it succeeds, the model may be put forward in other parts of the country, too, “Parlewar said.

Parlewar plans to put the research thesis itself up as a proposal paper before the ministry to adopt the model elsewhere in the country once it succeeds in Nagpur.

MSME-DI shall select potential candidates from the lists provided by the department of prisons. It may initially be a limited number of prisoners but that number would eventually increase, he said.

There are some inmates who may have taken up work during sentencing involving specific skills. The process can start straight away for them. Skill development training would also be imparted to others, he said.

Funds can be arranged through banks or other schemes of the government. There are plans to arrange it through sponsors in the event that the promoter has to bring in some initial capital, he said.

The idea is to start with cottage industries for inmates, as not much capital investment would be needed. In addition, the skills gained during the prison term may also be used in such industries, he said.
