Lockdown to be extended in Mumbai-Pune, parts of Nagpur, eased in other areas

MUMBAI: The Maharashtra lockout will continue to some part of the state even though it is scheduled to end on 3 May throughout the region, said CEO Uddhav Thackeray on Friday.

“What after May 3 is the question asked. I would like to make it clear that we can not raise the lockdown into red zones, such as the Mumbai-Pune belt and parts of Nagpur and some other locations.”

He urged people not to worry about the state situation. “It’s just a matter of starting treatment on time. People have recovered and gone home from the few days of old babies to 83-year old. People put on a fan have recovered,” he said.

Maharashtra was the first state to reach the grim mark of 10,000 cases of coronavirus in India. In the last 24 hours, the total number of patients in the state increased to 10,498 with 583 fresh cases, according to the health and family welfare ministry.

The first Maharashtra coronavirus infection was detected in March. In 53 days, the state reached 10,000 marks. The total number of deaths in the state was 459, including 27 deaths in the last 24 hours. In India, the state has also reported the highest number of deaths.

Mumbai accounted for approximately 70% of the overall Covid-19 count of Maharashtra. In the last 24 hours, over 400 new cases were reported in the city. Mumbai has over 7,000 patients with coronavirus and almost 300 deaths. Pune reported 1,379 cases of coronavirus and more than 80 deaths.

“We will certainly relax after May 3, seeing the state of specific areas, but be vigilant and cooperate, else everything we have accomplished over recent days will be lost,” added Thackeray. Thackeray.
