Nagpur University Secures ₹20 Crore Grant Under PM-USHA for Holistic Development

Nagpur University (NU) has successfully secured a grant of ₹20 crore under the Pradhan Mantri-Uchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA), as part of the ₹540 crore comprehensive upgrade package dedicated to the development of higher education institutions (HEIs) in Maharashtra. This substantial funding initiative aims to enhance research and infrastructure facilities, positioning NU as a hub for interdisciplinary research.

Prime Minister Modi Virtually Launches Initiative

Ambitious Programme for National Empowerment

The initiative, part of the ₹540 crore upgrade package, was virtually launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Jammu on Tuesday. A total of 11 public universities in Maharashtra were selected for the grant, with four receiving ₹100 crore each and the remaining seven, including NU, receiving ₹20 crore. The program envisions empowering public universities and colleges nationwide.

Transforming Into an Interdisciplinary Research Center

NU Vice Chancellor Subhash Chaudhari emphasized that the grant would be utilized to create research and infrastructure facilities benefiting the student community. This financial provision aligns with the national education policy, promoting the independent functioning of colleges and the university. The goal is to establish NU as an interdisciplinary research center.

Upgrading Facilities with Central Government Funding

Cutting-Edge Resources for Enhanced Learning

The allocated funds will be directed towards upgrading the Tribal History Museum and Rusa Multi Facility Centre. These facilities will receive state-of-the-art research materials, including advanced equipment such as transmission electron microscopes, confocal microscopes, ultra centrifuges, and more. NU aims to provide students in autonomous departments and various colleges with top-notch resources for research and training.

NU’s Developmental Milestones

New Buildings and Modern Facilities

Vice Chancellor Chaudhari shared insights into the ongoing developmental works at NU. The university is set to witness the construction of new buildings, including an examination hall, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Microbiology, Department of Biochemistry, Centre for Excellence, Technology and Energy Park, Museum of Antiquities, and the Nano Technology and Engineering-Semiconductor Department.
