The Impressive Turnout: 54.46% Voter Participation Despite Scorching Heat

Despite sweltering temperatures reaching 41.4°C, voters in Nagpur and Ramtek displayed remarkable enthusiasm during the recent Lok Sabha elections, resulting in a notable turnout of 54.46% and 52.38%, respectively.

Voting commenced at 7 am with a steady influx of voters throughout the day. By 9 am, the turnout had reached 5.82% in Ramtek and 7.73% in Nagpur. Notably, Umred constituency in Ramtek recorded an impressive 60.74% voter turnout, closely followed by Ramtek with 59.26%.

Regional Variations

In Nagpur, East-Nagpur witnessed the highest voter turnout at 57.80%, while Central Nagpur recorded the lowest at 54.02%. Other constituencies, including North Nagpur (55.15%), South Nagpur (53.00%), and West Nagpur (53.56%), displayed active participation.

Challenges Faced

Despite the enthusiasm, some voters faced confusion at polling booths due to issues with VVPAT machines. Nonetheless, efforts were made to alleviate concerns and encourage participation through various initiatives, such as decorative entrances and selfie points.

Political Landscape

Nagpur witnessed a direct contest between Nitin Gadkari of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Vikas Thakre of the Congress. In Ramtek, the competition was triangular, featuring Raju Parve of Shiv Sena (Shinde), Shyamkumar Barve of Congress, and Independent candidate Kishor Gajbhiye.
